Its a simple recipe: get a quality start, some timely hits and a few solid defensive plays when required. Do that often enough and you should win more baseball games than you lose. Monday night, in front of 5,088 spectators at Shaw Park, the Winnipeg Goldeyes got a two-run homer from Josh Mazzola, a solid start from Pete Gehle and some terrific defensive plays from the likes of Josh Moesquit and Josh Mazzola, as the Fish built a 6-1 lead and hung on to beat the Trois-Rivieres Aigles 6-5 in a thriller. With the win, the Goldeyes won their third straight game, improved to 34-32 on the season and 5-2 on this 11-game homestand. By taking three-of-four from Trois-Rivieres, the Goldeyes have now won four consecutive series. "We kind of put ourselves in harms way by making two errors and allowing two unearned runs," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. "But the bottom line is, we got out of here with a win and another series victory and its not easy to win three-of-four against any team. Its even tougher against that team over there. Theyre pretty good. They scrap and claw, they never quit and they have some good arms over there. We were fortunate to beat them." Winnipeg opened the scoring in the first inning, as Amos Ramon singled, Ryan Scoma singled and Casey Haerther doubled to drive in both base runners. Then Mazzola hit a bomb over the left-centre field wall to give Winnipeg a 4-0 advantage. After Trois-Rivieres scored a run off Gehle in the top of the second, Winnipeg answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Moesquit beat out an infield hit, Tyler Graham beat out a bunt single and Ramon drove home Moesquit with a solid single to left. Winnipeg made it 6-1 in the third as Haerther led off with a single, Fehlandt Lentini singled and then Moesquit singled to drive home Haerther from second. The Aigles scored a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth on a two-run double by Cam Kneeland and one in the ninth on an RBI single by Kneeland, but Kaohi Downing and Chris Kissock came out of the bullpen to shut down the visitors in the seventh and eighth innings and then closer Patrick Keating survived a one-run ninth to give Winnipeg its third straight win and fourth straight series victory. "Right now, were doing enough to win games," said Forney. "For a month or so there, we were doing just enough to lose. But now were getting it done and until youre mathematically eliminated from the playoffs you have to keep fighting for every win." Red-hot Casey Haerther had another big game going two-for-four with two runs scored and two driven in. Kevin Moesquit, who made a brilliant defensive play in the eighth to potentially save a run, and Amos Ramon each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Mazzola had two hits, including that big two-run homer. Gehle (4-4, 4.13 ERA) got the win for Winnipeg, while Keating (2.90 ERA) picked up his 13th save. Starter Luis Munoz (2-2, 3.60 ERA) pitched a complete game, but still suffered the loss for Trois-Rivieres. The Goldeyes will open a four-games-in-three-nights series with the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday night. It will be a doubleheader (two seven-inning games) beginning at 6 p.m. at Shaw Park.Adidas Basket Nmd Noir Femme . LOUIS -- Alexander Steen scored a power-play goal with 59.NEW YORK -- NBC set up Friday as duel night between the United States and Jamaica in the sprint relays, and what started out well ended up in heartbreak for the Americans. The American women were working on a second chance in the 4x100-meter relay. Bumped off course in a heat Thursday, they were given another opportunity to qualify by running against a clock. They succeeded, but heard whispers that they didnt deserve that chance.I think they will come out with a lot of attitude, NBC analyst Ato Boldon predicted. He was right, and the U.S. team defended its gold medal with relative ease. Jamaica came in second. Before the men took the track, NBC aired a creative and prescient prepared report, handing the four American sprinters tablets to see video of flubs that had ruined previous races.Unfortunately, weve come to be defined by failure, said the teams coach, Dennis Mitchell. As they will again. Viewers knew it wasnt meant to be when the U.S. began the final lap essentially even with Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt, the worlds fastest man who was attempting to win his ninth gold medal. Nobody would catch him. Japan snuck in for the silver medal and the U.S. thought it earned bronze, but even that slipped from their grasp when they were disqualified for a faulty pass of the baton.HOLD ON: The admonition not to call a race over before it actually is should be the first thing track announcers learn, but NBCs Tim Hutchings apparently wasnt listening that day. About five minutes before the womens 5,000-meter race ended and with Ethiopias Almaz Ayana way ahead, Hutchings referenced the pack of runners behind her and said, its a difficult mindset to adopt, to rrealize that the gold medal is gone and youre racing for silver.dddddddddddd Not so fast. Ayana faded and Kenyan teammates Vivian Cheruiyot and Hilla Onsando Obiri passed her.CLUELESS: Now that weve reached the point of memorizing most of the Olympic commercials, we feel safe offering our nomination for the most annoying. Its those General Electric ads with the clueless younger brother visiting his sister at work. Theyre painfully unfunny, and were at a loss to see how it makes viewers think good thoughts about the company.ARLO TIME: Done right, theres something lyrical about calling a soccer game, isnt there? Its a corner kick for Sweden in the dying embers of the game, said NBCs Arlo White as the minutes ticked away in Germanys 2-1 gold medal victory over Sweden in womens Olympic soccer on Friday. Sweet.VOLLEYBALL: Nice camera work in the US-Italy mens volleyball match showing three Americans laying themselves out simultaneously for the ball. It looked like some kind of coordinated diving exercise, NBC analyst Kevin Barnett said.RATINGS: Bolts gold-medal run on Thursday lifted NBCs ratings in the dying embers of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The Nielsen company said 21.7 million people watched the telecast. Adding in cable and streaming viewers, and NBC had 22.9 million people watching during the time slot. NBC had an identical number of viewers -- 22.9 million -- four years ago on the same night in London.---Follow David Bauder at twitter.com/dbauder.
