EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesotas struggling offensive line has been handed another setback, with an upcoming absence for left guard Alex Boone. The Vikings ruled Boone and middle linebacker Eric Kendricks out of their game against Detroit because of concussions that kept both of them out of practice all week. Boone was also listed on the injury report with shoulder and knee issues. This will be the first absence of the season for each player when the Vikings (5-2) host the Lions (4-4) on Sunday.Jeremiah Sirles will start in Boones place, leaving rookie Willie Beavers and Nick Easton as the only available backups. Thats because backup guard Zac Kerin was also ruled out on Friday to face the Lions because of a hand injury, further depleting a front five already missing original starting tackles Matt Kalil and Andre Smith. Kalil (hip) and Smith (triceps) are both on injured reserve. Both pass protection and run blocking have been significant problems for the Vikings, particularly in the last two games after the teams bye week. Sam Bradford was sacked 11 times over those losses to Philadelphia and Chicago, and for the season the Vikings have allowed 51 quarterback hits, tied for seventh most in the NFL. Boone, in his first year with Minnesota after leaving San Francisco to sign as a free agent, has been one of the teams most consistent linemen. The loss of Kendricks will be felt, too, especially with the receiving threat posed by Lions running back Theo Riddick. Kendricks has seven pass breakups this season, tied for the second most among non-defensive backs in the league. Hell be replaced by Audie Cole in the base defense, and outside linebacker Chad Greenway will remain on the field in the nickel package rather than coming out for cornerback Captain Munnerlyn.Hes an 11-year vet. I feel comfortable with everything. Chads a great player, coach Mike Zimmer said. Hes always prepared and ready to go. You know if he gets the opportunity to play some more plays, I know hell be excited. Two other starters who missed the game against the Bears because of sprained ankles, safety Andrew Sendejo and running back Jerick McKinnon, were limited participants in practice this week and listed as questionable to play against the Lions.Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who has been replaced in the starting lineup by Shamar Stephen, was also declared out for the sixth straight game because of a knee injury that required surgery. The only player ruled out for the Lions this week was linebacker DeAndre Levy, who has not played since the season opener after hurting his quadriceps.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLSwell Water Bottle Sale . -- Nate Robinson has played for seven teams, so beating one of them is no longer a rare occurrence. LOS ANGELES -- As good as the Dodgers have been at home recently, Kenta Maeda hasnt enjoyed the same good fortune. His struggles at Dodger Stadium culminated in a 4-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night that cost Los Angeles its five-game overall winning streak and ended its run of 10 consecutive home victories.Maeda (7-6) gave up a three-run homer to Manny Machado in the fifth inning, helping the Orioles end their five-game skid. The right-hander tied season highs in runs allowed (four) and hits (seven) in four-plus innings, equaling the shortest outing of his career.Maeda struck out five and walked three. He fell to 3-6 in nine home starts this season.Youve got to make major league hitters respect your fastball, Dodgers manager Dave Robert said. He had an opportunity to put guys away and they got back in the count. Its a tough way to live.Maeda came into the game with a 4-2 record and a 2.21 ERA in his last seven starts since May 28.I didnt execute my pitches, he said through a translator. Its more of a control issue rather than a specific pitch.Hitters are capitalizing against Maeda on their third time through the lineup. From the first inning on, it seemed like Kenta was laboring, Roberts said.Machado, a newly named All-Star starter who turns 24 on Wednesday, sent a 2-2 pitch from Maeda into the upper corner of the left-field pavilion, putting the AL East-leading Orioles ahead 4-1. Machados 19th homer would have registered 453 feet had it landed unimpeded, according to Statcast. The Orioles lead the majors with 129 home runs; they had 56 in June.Chris Tillman (11-2) allowed one run and five hits in seven innings, struck out two and walked two while facing the Dodgers for the first time in his career. He scored on Gonzalezs single, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.Los Angeles didnt muster a hit past the fifth inning.DODGERS ALL-STARSAt 22 years, 69 days, Seager is the youngest position player to be named an All-Star in Dodgers history. Hes the clubs second rookie shortstop to be selected, joining Bill Grabarkewitz in 1970, and the first shortstop since Rafael Furcal in 2010.Closer Kenley Jansen joined Seager as a first-time All-Star in his seventh season and is the teams first reliever to be named since Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo in 2010. Jansen ranks second among NL relievers with 25 saves. He became the Dodgers career saves leader earlier this season.Left-hander Clayton Kershaw became the first Dodger to make six straight All-Star games since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981-86, but hell miss the game in San Diego with a herniated disc. He leads the majors with a 1.79 ERA.URIAS TO MINORSThe Dodgers sent 19-year-old pitcher Julio Urias to Triple-A Oklahoma City after eight starts in an effort to control his innings. The left-hander was 1-2 with a 4.95 ERA after making his big league debut on May 27 at the New York Mets. The team has Urias on an unspecified innings limit this season. He was scheduled to be sent down earlier, but several injuries to the rotation forced an extended stay.TRAINERS ROOMOrioles: RHP Darren ODay, on the DL with a right hamstring strain, could pitch a rehab game over next weeks All-Star break. Its not a good injury, Showalter said. If he pushes it, hes going to miss the whole year.UP NEXTOrioles: RHP Kevin Gausman (1-6, 3.97 ERA) has received 3.20 runs of support and the team is 5-9 in his 14 starts.Dodgers: RHP Bud Norris (4-7, 3.89) makes his second start since being acquired from Atlanta last week.
